Through this project, I explored the art of print making. I created a standardized stamp that I used repetitively in my art. My piece depicts relationships through the prints that I used. The infinity symbol represents my view on friendships. This infinity symbol is featured on top of a magazine picture of four women with their arms wrapped around one another. I am fortunate to have found friends that I will have in my life forever. I used stamps to create the saying featured next to the picture. The quote perfectly describes the relationship I share with friends in that we are fun-loving and enjoy being ridiculous with one another.
In my future classroom I could use printmaking with my students. Students could use other means that creating a stamp by carving to form a stamp. For example, an outline on a Styrofoam plate could be a much more cost effective tool. Similar to the work I did in this piece, my students could depict a relationship they share with something that is meaningful to them. The teacher could also integrate writing into this activity because it can lend to a journal activity that expands upon the thoughts they expressed through their art.

Through this Do Hu Suh inspired mixed media piece, I explored pop-up homes and habitats. I created a "fold" in the a pentagon shaped piece of paper. The shape represents the things that mean home to me. For example, the prominent Golden Retriever featured, represents my dog Brodee. Brodee not only plays a large role in my home, but he also represents the playful and kindhearted traits that my family possesses. The checkered red background represents a picnic which is something that my family loves to enjoy. In addition, the anchor is the symbol for Delta Gamma, the sorority that has been my home throughout my college experience. On the back of this piece are two numbers that represent the address number of the houses I have lived.
I would love to implement this mixed media piece in my own classroom. I love the concept of students creating pop-ups. Students can go about creating these pop-ups through a variety of methods (i.e. students could create a free standing pop-up by using paper). Students can use this project to reflect upon what is "home" to them and display this visually by using mixed media that reflects these ideals.
