inspired by: Nick Cave
I created a puppet that celebrates my identity. I choose to create a mermaid puppet because I feel as though I connect strongly to a mermaid. As a child, my dream was to become a mermaid and this dream still remains. To this day, I have a strong obsession with swimming, ocean life, and mermaids.
I would love to utilize this Nick Cave inspired project in my own classroom I think that children would love the concept of celebrating themselves. Likewise, doing so through the creation of a puppet would most likely be captivating to them. I would love to replicate this project and then integrate this piece into literacy. I think that it would be very neat to see students work together to create their own skit using their puppets. In addition, this could create a perfect team building scenario for students. Students could also create puppets to explore characters in various literature they are focusing on in class. For example, students could create a George Washington inspired puppet.

My magazine article was inspired by my Golden Retriever Brodee. I feel as though Golden Retrievers are a very traditional all-American dog breed. Therefore, I used images that I have of Brodee to compose the cover of my magazine, "A Golden Tradition."
I believe that this piece could be great especially if you were
to choose to collaborate with the school's library media specialist. Because this idea requires students to use technology, it is imperative that students understand how to use the programs needed to compose their own magazine cover. If students were able to do this, I believe that this could be an extremely meaningful project for students. I believe that this topic could also tie together very well with writing. Students can compose the inside of a magazine or short story and use their words as the inspiration for the cover.

Once again, this studio focused on celebrations. I replicated an idea from Miriam Shapiro to celebrate the identity of one of my favorite people, my sister Ashlee. I celebrated Ashlee by using various pieces of fabric, print, and pictures to display some of the things that I love most about Ashlee. For example, I included a school bus because my sister is a teacher and she was one of the biggest reasons as to why I decided to become a teacher.
I particularly enjoyed the idea about celebrating someone's identity. I think this could be a great integration piece with social studies. Students could choose an influential man or woman from history that they would like to celebrate. The students could then create a similar art piece in which they highlight their favorite attributes about this famous individual from history.
